Power shoulders

I remember Grace Jones in 1981 with her cubist androgynous look on the cover of her ‘Nightclubbing’ album: square-cut hair (flat top style), and broad-shouldered masculine jacket. The power shoulders were popular in the 1980s because they compensate the presence of women in the workforce - a man's world until that moment. Thus, the woman look equal to man. Well, that era is back, the big exaggerated power shoulders are cool again even we hate the 'shoulder pads'. As you can see, Margiela is the pioneer who introduced this trend 2 years before it spreads. Now, amplified shoulders are popping up almost everywhere: Balmain, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Bruno Pieters. More, here.
